IWC Schaffhausen has expanded its “Colors of TOP GUN” series with the Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 TOP GUN Mojave Desert, featuring a 41mm case in sand-colored ceramic. This earthy tone takes inspiration from Navy flight suits and the desert environment surrounding the China Lake naval air base. The design maintains a cohesive, muted palette with a brown dial, subdued numerals, and a beige rubber strap with textile inlay. The ceramic case, developed through a precise process involving powdered zirconium oxide and other oxides, is sintered at high temperatures to achieve both its scratch resistance and unique color.
The Mojave Desert color was first introduced in 2019 and remains a standout in the TOP GUN collection for its subtle blend of khaki and beige. Creating this exact tone involves significant experimentation, as ceramic pigments shift during the firing process. The final product is a light yet tough watch with a titanium case back engraved with the TOP GUN emblem. The matching dial includes Super-LumiNova® for clarity in low-light settings, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics.
Inside, the watch is powered by IWC’s in-house 32112 caliber movement. This automatic mechanism features a pawl winding system that captures energy from both rotor directions, offering an impressive 120-hour power reserve. Beating at 4 Hz, the movement delivers reliable precision.
